Peep Day!
3:02 PM
I love Peep Day and so do my students! Coming from second grade I worried fourth graders would not be interested in adopting a peep, boy was I wrong! My students were so excited all day! They even took their adopted peeps everywhere with them.
I always start of Peep Day by bringing all the students to the floor. I tell themtoday they are going to adopt a peep. Before class I have stuffed peeps in eggs. Some eggs have twins and some have peep bunnies. Every time I chime the wand a new peep is adopted to one of the students. This causes lots of excitement. Students name their peeps and tell their peeps birthday (I have preassigned based on their colors). After each student adopts a peep they rotate through peep centers like peep tic-tac-toe and my favorite read to your peep.
For my math students they created a new yogurt shop that is peep themed. They created a menu for their yogurt shop and included a unit rate for each topping. Then, they used what they had learned about multiplying decimals to provide prices for six ounces and twelve ounces of each toppings. The students keep saying "I love doing projects that are fun while learning"...score! I know my students will be talking about Peep Day for years to come and that makes me smile.
