Favorite Childrens/ Young Adult Books Blog Hop

I have been working hard on creating a list of books for Reader's Workshop this year. There are so many good books to choose from. When I first started this process I searched all the award winning children's books, some of the books listed are great books but others have not been successful with my students. For whatever reason my students did not find them interesting. While I was looking for books to use in my class, I wondered what some of your favorite childhood  books were. Please join in on my blog hop to share what books had a lasting impression on you. You can choose to blog about one book and a particular experience, or maybe you want to list several books. Either way, I am excited to see which books you choose and why.
As for my favorites, I have so many; Night, To Kill A Mockingbird and The Diary of Anne Frank.

I also have some favorites that I have read since my school days but are still considered young adult or childrens literature: The Invention of Hugo Cabret, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and The White Darkness

  1. My favorite childhood books that I read as a child and not a teacher were the Little House books. I read them all. Growing up in Queens, NY, the idea of living on the prairie was completely foreign to me. I was really fascinated by the series. I also loved Charlotte's Web and the Matthew Looney series (does anyone remember that?!) about a Moon-boy who travels to earth.
As an adult in college Children's Lit course, I discovered the Secret Garden which I absolutely loved. I'm not sure how much my first graders would like it. LOL Do you have any suggestions for read alouds for first grade? I'm going back into the classroom after being a K-5th math specialist for 4 years. I'm feeling a bit out of touch!

  2. Did you read Night as a kid? We read it in 10th grade English with Melba Johnson!
